Southern Smiths Success Stories
When I first began this project, the sheer number of Smiths in the southern
states made it a surety that it would take awhile before finding matches. I will
be updating this page as I have stories of those who have been able to find
matches or go farther back in their ancestry.
It is REALLY exciting when participants find a match, thus shedding light on
their dead ends.
- The first well-defined group in the Southern Smiths project is the
Abraham Smith b 1728 Amherst Co, VA. Not only is there a good paper trail
for this line but if you compare markers, you'll see (Oct 2007) at least 6
clear matches.
- 8858 and 31117. 8858 originally joined as a descendant of Adam
Smith b 1832 of Greene Co, TN. 31117 belonged to the Northeastern Smith
project and the markers matched. After conferring with each other and sharing
research, they discovered that they are both descendants of John Smith b 1622
Sudbury, England, with the common ancestor being Blodgett Smith. b c 1744 in
CT. Their markers are listed on Southern Smiths as a courtesy;
you can find additional
info on the Northeastern Smiths site.
